Helping My Son Enjoy The Summer

I watched my son tense as the water splashed him in the face.

The sounds of so many children – laughing, splashing, having fun.

The look on my son’s face – crying, stressed, uncomfortable, frustrated.

Helping My Son Enjoy The Summer

I went over to the side of the pool and asked him if I could help him out. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, “I can’t get out. The sidewalk will burn my feet. I can’t do it. I can’t. I can’t do it.”

I had forced him to come to the pool that day. He didn’t want to. I thought it would be best for him to get out of the house and be with other kids. I didn’t realize how much the sensory input of that crowded pool would hurt him.

He eventually got out of the pool, panicked and wild.

Summer and my sweet boy just do not mix.

Mission an (1)

As we drove home that day, now almost four years ago, I realized I had to come up with ideas for summer fun that actually were fun for my child.

Ideas that accommodated his needs, while still allowing us to have a summer together as a family.

Please join me at the 2:1 Conference today. I’m sharing all the ways we accommodate my son, and actually have fun in the sun.

See you there!
